It was while time traveling to the 13th century that the crew of the HMS Helvetica toured Castile, Spain and used pure castile soap for the first time. Unlike 20th Century detergent bars they had tried on a recent voyage (which were touted as being technically advanced), castile soap, in all its old-fashioned glory, proved to be much more mild, cleaner rinsing, and left their skin soft and smooth, rather than dry and tight.
The crew persuaded one of their members, a self-proclaimed chemistry geek, to not only make natural soap, but improve upon the texture of castile soap, and create a more bubbly olive oil soap with formula-balancing oils. They nicknamed her "The Soap Alchemist" and she got right to work.
Beginning with a generous portion of olive oil, she adds palm, coconut and castor oils to improve the hardness and create loads of bubbly lather. With its mild cleansing, excellent moisturizing quality and luscious lather, her unscented, original, natural olive oil soap formula has started many down their path of natural soap addiction!
