The Goodness of Olive Oil Soap

Of all the oils available to the handmade soap crafter, olive oil is perhaps the one our Soap Alchemist could never bear to part with. She believes it is what makes her olive oil soaps so irresistibly addicting.

Modern technology has proven that olive oil is a "healthy" fat.

Olive oil contains Oleic Acid, an Omega-9 fatty acid that is considered to be one of the healthiest sources of fat in our diets.

Oleic Acid is capable of lowering our total cholesterol levels by raising "good" cholesterol (high-density lipoproteins, or HDL), and lowering "bad" low-density lipoproteins (LDLs).

Oleic acid also promotes antioxidant growth and slows the development of heart disease.

But how is this helpful to our Soap Alchemist?

Lucky for us, oleic acid isn't just good for eating. It also makes incredibly good olive oil soap!

Olive oil, and other oils that are high in oleic acid are wonderful moisturizers and create soaps with excellent conditioning properties.

Oleic acid is exceptionally gentle, which explains why olive oil has been used for centuries to care for skin. High oleic acid oils even tend to prolong the shelf lives of products that contain them.
